Author Guidelines

International Young Biomedical Horizons (IYBH) welcomes submissions from young scholars, students, early-stage researchers, and all authors with serious academic interest in biomedicine, life sciences, health sciences, and related areas of the natural sciences. The journal values intellectual curiosity, responsible scholarship, clear reasoning, and thoughtful scientific communication.

IYBH does not seek to confine authors within rigid, overly restrictive, or unnecessarily conservative rules. We welcome original research articles, review articles, perspectives, methodological discussions, academic essays, science education papers, reflections on research training, interdisciplinary observations, and other forms of scholarly writing that can meaningfully contribute to scientific dialogue. We are also open to submissions that are exploratory in nature, provided that they demonstrate academic seriousness, intellectual honesty, and developmental potential.

At the same time, openness does not mean disorder. We welcome diversity in subject matter, structure, and voice, but all submissions must remain clear, well organized, and professionally presented. A manuscript may challenge convention, but it should not be careless. It may be innovative, but it must still be readable, responsible, and properly formatted. IYBH particularly expects the following:

The submission should present a clear topic and central argument or objective.
Research and discussion should be grounded in identifiable evidence, reasoning, or method.
The writing should be formal, coherent, and suitable for academic readership.
Headings, paragraphs, tables, figures, notes, and references should follow a consistent format.
All quotations, paraphrases, data, images, and third-party materials must be properly acknowledged.
Any work involving human participants, animals, sensitive data, or related ethical concerns should clearly state the relevant ethical considerations or approvals.

Types of submissions

The journal welcomes, but is not limited to, the following categories:

Original research articles
Review articles
Perspective or commentary papers
Methodological discussions
Case analyses
Science education articles
Reflections on research training and academic development
Interdisciplinary essays in the natural sciences
Articles related to the development of young researchers

Formatting and presentation

To facilitate review and editorial handling, authors are strongly encouraged to follow these basic presentation requirements:

Submit the main manuscript in a Word-compatible format, preferably .doc.docx, or .rtf.
Use a clear and readable font, preferably 11-point or 12-point size.
Use 1.5 line spacing or double spacing for the main text.
Maintain standard page margins and a consistent paragraph style throughout.
Use a clear heading structure.
Include continuous page numbers whenever possible.
Indicate the placement of tables and figures clearly in the text and upload high-quality files separately when needed.
If the journal uses anonymous review, the main manuscript file should not contain author names, affiliations, or other identifying information.

Suggested manuscript structure

Different submission types may adopt different structures, but most manuscripts should normally include:

Title
Abstract
Keywords
Main text
Acknowledgements, if applicable
Funding statement, if applicable
Conflict of interest statement, if applicable
Ethics statement, where relevant
References
Appendices or supplementary materials, if any

Original research articles will often benefit from the following structure:
Introduction
Materials and Methods
Results
Discussion
Conclusion

Review articles, perspectives, and reflective essays may use more flexible structures, but should still include clear sections and headings.

Citation and references

The journal accepts standard scholarly citation systems used consistently throughout the manuscript. Authors may use Vancouver, APA, Chicago, or another recognized style appropriate to their disciplinary field, but the style must remain consistent within the submission. For medicine and life sciences, Vancouver style is generally preferred unless there is a strong disciplinary reason to use another format.

Language and style

The journal accepts English-language submissions and may accept Chinese-language submissions in selected sections according to journal policy. Regardless of language, manuscripts should be written in clear, formal, and academically appropriate prose. We do not expect young authors to write in an artificially elaborate style, but we do expect precision, coherence, and consistency.

Editorial philosophy

IYBH aims to be a journal that is open to emerging voices, supportive of new forms of scholarship, and welcoming to authors who are still developing their academic practice. We do not believe that good scholarship must always fit into narrow templates or unnecessary procedural barriers.
However, we do insist on one essential principle: flexibility in expression must coexist with order in presentation. Diversity is welcome. Carelessness is not. Innovation is welcome. Confusion is not. Authors may write boldly, but they should submit responsibly.
